Les invités de la revue
The decarbonization trajectory of the French steel industry is becoming clearer
On Friday, 27 September 2024, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm (Paris time)
On the occasion of the publication in the journal La Revue de l’Énergie of their article "The decarbonisation trajectory for the French steel industry takes shape", Lionel Ragot (Paris Nanterre University) & Simon Lang (laboratory EconomiX) will meet with Marie-Line Vaiani, editor-in-chief of La Revue de l'Énergie, during a virtual meeting where she will also answer any questions you want to ask!
The French steel industry faces major challenges, with regulatory pressure pushing companies to decarbonise in a highly uncertain environment. This article analyses the role of various uncertainties (the cost of CO2, energy sources, and the development of technologies) in determining optimal strategies using a quantitative approach based on real options. The more volatile CO2 and electricity prices are, the more limited is the ability of investors to project the future, and the more they tend to adopt a wait-and-see attitude. While some uncertainties are being resolved, new ones are emerging, such as the supply of high iron ore (a necessary component of the H2-DRI process).
