The Carbon Tax Conundrum
The promulgation of the Carbon Tax Act on the 1st of June 2019 was a huge step as it represents the South African Government’s commitment to participate in efforts to reduce GHG emissions. The requirements, as set out by the act will make a sizable impact on the local economy.
The South African economy is heavily dependent on fossil fuels for electricity, transportation and industry. This is exacerbated by numerous socio-economic challenges the country will be facing. Hence the implications on the final consumer is of grave concern.
