The annual India Energy Congress, organised by WEC-India, was held during 7–8 February in New Delhi after the World Energy Leaders’ Summit.  The conference attracted about 300 delegates, including international energy executives, some of whom also served as speakers.

The conference explored how to secure long-term energy security for the country, covering energy for the poor, efficient energy use, and sustainable energy.

Jyotiraditya M. Scindia (pictured), the Indian Minister of Power, was amongst the Indian ministers who addressed the audience.

On 7 February the event hosted a press conference where the World Energy Council’s Chairman Pierre Gadonneix and Secretary General Christoph Frei outlined the findings of the WEC’s 2013 World Energy Issues Monitor.  Mr Uma Shankar, Indian Union Secretary of Power and WEC-India Chair, and Mr Ashok Lavasa, Additional Secretary of Power, provided the Indian perspective.
