Einari Kisel, WEC’s Senior Fellow, European Policies and Partnership Development, reviewed global CCS trends and outlook in a presentation to the energy officials and experts in attendance. According to Kisel, while many CCUS demonstration projects are operating or are being planned today, challenges remain. “The main challenges are associated with political frameworks, potential reuses of carbon and public acceptance,” he said.
Kisel represented WEC’s Cleaner Fossil Fuels (CFFS) Knowledge Network. At the conference he “raised awareness in the Baltic Sea region about the CFFS Knowledge Network’s activities and their assessment of the current state of play,” said Kisel, who has significant policy experience with CCS in his capacity as former Estonian deputy secretary
for energy.
