World Energy Council showcases the people at the heart of energy transitions in third edition of global storytelling series

‘Humanising Energy’ series films have been produced for the Council by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions

04 March 2025, London: The World Energy Council today presents the latest edition of the Humanising Energy film series, produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions.

Now in its third season with over 50 unique stories, the series continues to convey the compelling technical innovations taking place across the energy sector through inspiring, human-centric stories of collaboration, creativity and community.

Born from a simple, shared goal of putting people back at the centre of energy conversations, the series brings energy transitions to life through the eyes of those actively shaping them. Recognising that many people feel disconnected from energy transitions, seeing themselves as passive consumers rather than active participants, the need for enhanced energy literacy has never been greater. The Humanising Energy series seeks to educate consumers, offering a fresh perspective on real-world applications of energy that inspire action and collaboration.

At the heart of the series is a new World Energy Trilemma animation which reflects the Council’s 15-years’ experience in tracking the tensions and trade-offs among the dimensions of energy security, equity, and sustainability.

Dr Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General & CEO of the World Energy Council, said: “Too often in today’s energy conversations, we focus on where energy comes from rather than how it is experienced and used. However, we know that stories inspire human agency, especially when they help us to create a better future. Stories of energy transitions are ultimately the story of us all, which is why we are thrilled to present the latest Humanising Energy series.

“Through these films, we see that people are the real authors of this unfolding narrative. From the individuals utilising the power of geothermal energy in New Zealand to groups in Malawi connecting their community to the grid home-by-home, these are the stories that re-energize our enduring mission at the World Energy Council.”

The Humanising Energy series comprises 11 unique videos demonstrating the ways in which groups and communities are actively engaging with energy transitions around the world.
