Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council, said: "Given the recent power outages in large parts of India it will be timely for the WEC to bring its high-level energy leaders' community to India to discuss ways to address the energy issues in India. The country has wonderful dynamism and our event will provide a timely forum to discuss the challenges of meeting energy demand, in a socially equitable and environmentally sensitive way, with ministers and energy leaders from around the world. This is an important commitment from the World Energy Council to support the people of India to deliver a sustainable energy system."
The WEC's last World Energy Leaders' Summit, held in Istanbul in April 2012, drew the attendance of more than 100 energy leaders from 39 countries. Amongst the high-level attendees were 9 energy ministers, including Minister of Power from India, and India's Secretary of Power and Chair of the WEC-IMC.
The last India Energy Congress, held in January 2012, brought together 6 ministers and more than 70 high-level speakers and energy leaders from India and overseas to address the issues surrounding the energy trilemma in an open and informative forum.
