LONDON & ISTANBUL, 20 August 2013 – The World Energy Council (WEC) has welcomed Enerjisa as the newest member of its Global Partner programme.

Enerjisa is a leading energy company operating in Turkey’s electricity generation, distribution, trading, wholesale, and retail markets. The company is 50:50 owned by Sabancı Holding, one of the leading industrial and financial conglomerates in Turkey; and E.ON, one of the world’s largest investor-owned power and gas companies.

Enerjisa joins the World Energy Council’s community of Global Partners to contribute to the WEC’s efforts in devising strategies to address global energy challenges and to deliver sustainable energy systems.

Mr Selahattin Hakman, Chairman of the Enerjisa Board of Directors, said:

“We are proud to have joined the World Energy Council’s global network. The WEC is the largest global network of energy leaders dedicated to delivering sustainable energy systems globally. The WEC has a wide membership portfolio and strong relationships with leading organisations in the sector, so becoming a Global Partner of the WEC will give us unrivalled opportunities to engage with industry leaders and experts from around the world. This will also be beneficial to our business as we carry out our growth plans. We look forward to contributing to the WEC’s thought leadership activities towards a more equitable, secure and sustainable energy future.”

Mr Selahattin Hakman made the remarks as he confirms his role as speaker at the World Energy Congress, the WEC’s premier energy gathering to take place in in Daegu, South Korea, during 13–17 October. Mr Hakman will be speaking at the Eurasia Regional Crossroads session on Day 2, where he will discuss regional energy dynamics and Turkey’s increasing role as a key country for energy transit and terminals. He will also elaborate on recent developments in the Turkish energy sector and the sector’s achievements in establishing a functional competitive energy market which stands as a model for many countries in the region.

Dr Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the World Energy Council, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Enerjisa as our latest Global Partner. Our Global Partners are some of the most forward-thinking and innovative companies in the energy sector. We look forward to their participation and insights within our global network, in particular at our World Energy Congress this October.”

Taner Yıldız, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, will be joining nearly 40 other government ministers as speakers at the World Energy Congress. Mr Yıldız was co-host of the WEC’s World Energy Leaders’ Summit in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2012 with the WEC’s Turkish Member Committee.

Christoph Frei said:

“Enerjisa is our first Global Partner from Turkey. We expect this to be the start of a series of fruitful collaborations with Turkey in the run-up to our 2016 World Energy Congress in Istanbul.”

Mr Hakman added:

“Becoming a Global Partner is also a timely step that marks Enerjisa’s leadership role as Istanbul hosts the next World Energy Congress in 2016.”
