Energy Specialist Consultant, The World Bank
Karikari Achireko Kwagyan is a dynamic energy specialist dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions. He is currently pursuing a dual Master of Science degree in Technology & Policy and Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with a focus on engineering, energy, economics, finance, law, and policy. Prior to MIT, he worked as an Energy Infrastructure Consultant with the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited, where his role focused on managing large-scale energy projects, power system planning and providing strategic consulting to government agencies and private firms. His work included developing comprehensive energy solutions that significantly improved operational efficiency and reduced costs. At The World Bank, Karikari is currently working on the Accelerating Coal Transition (ACT) program in collaboration with the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) and Climate Investment Funds. His role involves developing investment plans informed by analytical studies to identify the least-cost ways to achieve emissions targets and repurpose coal plant sites.
His research at the MIT Center for Energy & Environmental Policy Research and the Future Energy Systems Center of the MIT Energy Initiative, particularly on clean energy and infrastructure investments towards a low-carbon economy, has been pivotal in shaping his expertise.
